Bye-Bye Migraines!
After blacking out twice and having really bad migraines I decieded to call my OB this week for some advice. He had some answers for me. We talked about my hypoglycemia and being pregnant and he told me to try and low carb, high protein diet. I guess I have really low blood sugar and being pregnant has made it worse. So on Monday I started to cut out un-healthy carbs and eating a lot more protein. I went to the store and bought beef jerky, cheese sticks and celery with PB. Monday and Tuesday I still didn't feel very good, but I was determined to try it for a week. Wed came and it was the best day of my pregnancy. I felt good the whole day, which is very fantastic considering that wed was usually the day I got the worst migraine. I have now gone a whole week without a bad migraine and I am so happy. I still have a little morning sickness and still throw up in the mornings, but I can handle that. It was the migraines that were the hardest for me!!!! So I am asking you guys for a little help. Can you think of any good, quick high protein, low sugar snacks that I can take to golds to eat while teaching?

Almonds are pretty tasty. Costco sells them in a decent size bag. Ummmmm...You could always try those nasty Power bar things. I don't know how much sugar is in those though. You could also try protein shakes...they can actually be pretty good. Anyway, good luck...I got a migraine during my pregnancy that made me lose my peripheral vision for a few hours. It was pretty weird.
I am so glad that you are feeling so much better! I really like clif bars-we buy them from costco and they taste better than most, but kind of look like throw up.
I'll get back to you on the protein thing, but becareful about the Peanut Butter. For some reason, we americans have been tricked into thinking Peanut Butter is so good for us--but read the lable. Its mostly fat and its not the good type of fat.
Almonds, Tuna Fish (not too much, though...prego rules), dried peas (believe it or not peas have the highest amount of protein of all veggies), tofu, cottage cheese, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, beans...I could just keep going and going. There are a TON of things you could take. Good luck!
Hey Tiff- this is Brooke Carter. I am having a baby shower and Diane said the best way to let everyone know is post it on the Sperry blog. Is that okay? Congrats on being pregnant- morning sickness is the worst! Try taking ginger and vitamin B12- if it's really bad there is an expensive but amazing prescription my doctor gave me so I could funtion. I can' remember what it's called, but I'm sure your doc would know what I'm talking about!
Raw almonds are the best, and so easy to put in your pocket. Also, you can try those bars- I don't know about the carbs? But I eat luna bars and I really like those. I'm so glad you're feeling better!
Eat small 300 calorie meals every three hours. This keeps your body fueled up and helps you avoid snacking. Remember that your body only needs something like 150 extra calories--which is like 1/2 a snickers bar or a slice of bread and 6 ounces of milk. Its easy though, when you have to change your diet like your doctor suggested, to go overboard and actually consume more calories then you really need--which leads to gaining more weight then needed during your pregnancy. (speaking from personal experience!!!)
Try eatting every three hours-- have something like 1 yogart, 1 string cheese and some fruit. Then wait three hours--baked chicken breast and veggies--wait three hour--tuna sandwhich and some almonds to snack on. etc
I'm glad that you are feeling better. I hate migraines! We are doing well, still trying to get organized. We find out what we are having on the 22nd so you find out first. Can't wait to hear.
That is great that you have found away to get migrains to go away for you!! Isn't is crazy how much diet can effect our bodies!! I wish I had a good snack idea for you but I can't think of anything!! We can't wait to find out what you are having!!
